The Labyrinth: The labyrinth has been with us since ancient times. It is a walking meditation, a path of prayer, a walk of making changes in your life. Lauren Artress, founder of the labyrinth movement, so beautifully explains it as "a watering hole for the spirit and a mirror of the soul."
The labyrinth is a single circuitous path that winds its way to the center that allows the person walking to be quiet and focus internally. The labyrinth is not a puzzle like a maze…..there are no tricks or dead ends. One follows the path where it leads and it leads where you need to go.
There is no right or wrong way to walk a labyrinth. The labyrinth and its paths are there to meet your needs. It is one step at a time at your own pace. For example - the person on the labyrinth journey will set an intention such as healing, gratitude, prayers for loved ones, friends or world peace, to release grief or to celebrate, to reflect or simply be quiet and listen to your self-wisdom.
Labyrinths are found throughout the world in schools, colleges, hospitals, parks, private gardens, churches and prisons, even created in the sand on a beach. Healing Through Nature: You will hear the rhythms and healing songs of Mother Nature, see her many colors and shapes - her trees, fauna, flowers, oceans and rivers.
We will explore the different settings of nature such as found in bodies of water, forests, arboretums and gardens. All focused toward bringing awareness to your five senses – sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. These are nourishing places to practice healing through nature. Being in nature and enjoying her beauty mentally, physically, and emotionally promotes and supports wellness.
Surprisingly, simple outdoor experiences have a wide array of health benefits, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood, cognition and works wonders for stress.
